Ginette Flore Daleu (Metet, 1977) is an artist who lives and works in Douala  (Cameroon). She is a graduate of the Mbalmayo Institut de Formation Artistique and has a certification of training in the visual arts from the Libera Accademia di Belle Arti (LABA) of Brescia (Italy). Attending numerous workshops, an artist residency, interventions in urban spaces, and an exchange trip, has accumulated her rich experience in artistic practice.
Daleu, one of the few female artists of Cameroon, passionately lives her art on a daily basis, and this involvement is a regular source of questions and calling things into question. Shifting from portraits to abstract, she prefers mixed techniques that offer her direct contact with the material. Her style feeds an on-going dialog between memory and the texture of the material, which doesn’t escape the art of photography; her constant worry is to capture the urban chaos that is her source of inspiration. She explores memory in urban space with photography and painting. She photographs details undergoing metamorphosis over time, which get replace with new forms that create themselves following the shifting of time. Her intention is to capture the beauty that can be found in the urban chaos. Similarly, the ways in which residents take ownership of their space and therefore its chaos serve as a source of inspiration. Daleu questions materials so as to build a specific dialogue between subjects and forms in order to reveal the energy of sleeping things brewing in the recesses of the city. Her work emphasizes direct contact with the materials. The found objects that she uses (sheet metal, banana tree fibres, buttons, fabrics, earth, beads, wood, circuit boards) are the physical components of colors for her; they are evocative of sense, intimate dialogue, vectors of communication, vehicles of atmosphere that reigns inside things and human beings: symbols of memory factor. Ginette Daleu has participated in important programs and artistic exhibitions, both national and internationals, historically important for contemporary art in Cameroon, notably Squat’Art (Douala, 2001-2002), Scénographies Urbaine (Douala, 2003-3004), Bessenguè City (Douala, 2003), Exit Tour (Biennal de Dakar, 2005), Festival Panafricain d’Alger (Safex Palais des expos, Alger, 2009), Salon Urbain de Douala 2010 (Galerie Mam, Douala, 2010), The Last Pictures Show (Galerie Vendôme, Paris, 2011 et Galerie Terra Kulture, Nigeria, 2011), Salon Urbain de Douala 2013 (Bessengue, Douala, 2013), Cameroon, une vision contemporaine IV (Banque mondiale, Yaoundé, 2014), RAVY 2014 – Rencontre des Arts Visuels de Yaoundé, (Yaoundé, 2014).
