Faustin Linyekula est un danseur et chorégraphe congolais qui vit et travaille à Kisangani (République Démocratique du Congo). Il enseigne la danse en Afrique, en Europe et en Amérique.

En 1997, il co-fonde, avec Opiyo Okach et Afrah Tenambergen, la première compagnie de danse contemporaine du Kenya, Gàara. Puis, en 2001, il crée le Studio Kabako à Kinshasa (RDC), conçu comme un endroit où danse et théâtre visuel peuvent se pratiquer. Le Studio soutient également des talents émergents dans les domaines du management, de la recherche et de la création, proposant des programmes spécifiques de formation. Par la suite, Linyekula s’installe à Kinsagani, au nord-est de la République Démocratique du Congo et, en collaboration avec Bärbel Müller, il s’implique en 2015 dans la construction d’un centre de résidence entièrement dédié à la danse, l’art et la musique. Il collabore également avec le KVS, le Théâtre National Flamand de Bruxelles (Belgique).

L’histoire de son pays joue un rôle important dans le travail de Linyekula, qui reflète des décennies caractérisées par de terribles conflits, un déclin économique et une peur omniprésente.

More more more…future (2009), Pour en finir avec Bérénice (2010), son exposition individuelle Le Cargo (2011) et Drum and digging (2013) sont quelques unes de ses douze pièces produites par le Studio Kabako et exécutées dans toute l’Afrique, en Europe et en Amérique. En plus de cela, Linyekula a participé à différents projets, comme La Création du Monde 1923-2012 (2012) par Fernand Léger, qu’il a interprétée avec 25 danseurs, en collaboration avec le Ballet de Lorraine de Nancy (France). En décembre 2007, il a reçu le Principal Award du « Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development ».

In 1997, together with Opiyo Okach and Afrah Tenambergen, he co-founds Kenya’s first contemporary dance company: Gàara. Successively, in 2001, he creates Studio Kabako in Kinshasa (DRC), conceived as a place where dancing and visual theatre can be practiced. Moreover, the Studio supports emerging talents on whatever concerns management, research and creation, also providing specific training programs. Later, he moves to Kinsagani, in the North East of DRC and was involved, in 2015, in collaboration with Bärbel Müller, with the construction of a residency center completely dedicated to dance, art and music.
The history of his country plays an important role on Linyekula’s work, which reflects decades characterized by terrible conflicts, economic collapse and widespread fear.
