Né en 1965 à Foumban (Cameroun), Salifou Lindou est un plasticien autodidacte qui vit et travaille à Douala. Il a suivi une année de formation en scénographie de théâtre à l’École des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg..

Salifou Lindou fait parti de la génération des artistes ayant émergé dans les années 90. Artiste engagé, il est membre fondateur du Cercle Kapsiki, un collectif de cinq plasticiens de Douala.

Chercheur infatigable, Salifou expérimente sans cesse de nouveaux matériaux, souvent de récupération, façonne, structure et déstructure la matière. Tôle, terre, cuir, verre, acier, toile de jute, il aime poncer, effacer, voir ce qu’il y a derrière la matière. Il s’exprime par la sculpture, la peinture, l’installation, la performance ou encore l’action painting.

Son thème favori, né de ses rencontres avec l’association doual’art, est l’urbain. Il a implanté à Douala, dans son ancien quartier de résidence, Bonamouti-Deïdo, l’œuvre d’art public Face à l’eau.

En 1998, Salifou Lindou a participé à la Biennale d’art contemporain africain Dak’art, au Sénégal. La même année, il a exposé une pièce unique à la galerie Mam (Douala) dans le cadre du projet initié par le Centre Culturel Français de Douala. En 2002, on le retrouve au Salon International d’Art Contemporain du Sud, à Paris, en France. Puis en 2005, il participe à ARCO, Salon International d’Art Contemporain Espagnol, à Madrid, en Espagne. En 2009, il présente l’exposition Émotions partagées, en collaboration avec Christian Hanussek, à l’espace doual’art, au Cameroun.

Born in 1965 in Foumban, Cameroon, Salifou Lindou is a self-taught artist who lives and works in Douala. He attended a year of training in theatre scenography at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg. Salifou Lindou comes from the generation of artists that emerged in the 1990s. An activist artist, he is a founding member of the Cercle Kapsiki, a collective of five Douala artists.
A tireless researcher, Salifou is constantly experimenting with new materials, often upcycling, shaping, building and deconstructing the material. Sheet metal, earth, leather, glass, steel, burlap, he loves to sand, erase and see what there is behind the material. The artist shapes, builds and deconstructs. He expresses himself through sculpture, painting, installation, performance, action painting… and opens up new avenues that are quite often revisited by his colleagues.
His favourite theme is the urban, born from his encounters with the association doual’art.

He was among the artists in the official selection of the Dakar contemporary African art biennale, Dak’art, in 1998. That year, he also exhibited a unique piece at the Galerie Mam for a project initiated by the Centre Culturel Français of Douala. In 2002, he participated in the Salon International d’Art Contemporain du Sud, in Paris, France. Since 2005, he has participated in ARCO, the Spanish salon of international contemporary art, in Madrid, Spain. In 2009, he presented the exhibition Emotions partagées, in collaboration with Christian Hanussek, at doual’art, in Cameroon.
