Plasticization

L’artiste Nelisiwe Xaba a exécuté une performance solo de 18 minutes sur l’étage principal de l’amphithéâtre Théâtre-Source de Philippe Aguirre, lors de son inauguration durant le SUD2013.

L’artiste était habillée de plastique: plastique comme métaphore symbolique du détachement, de la dislocation et d’un manque d’intimité. L’artiste critique et montre de manière provocante l’évolution matérialiste du monde dans lequel nous vivons.

L’oeuvre Plastification fait partie d’Across the Board, projet de deux ans initié par la Tate Modern sur les pratiques récentes et expérimentales de l‘art en Afrique, comme de sa diaspora.

The artist Nelisiwe Xaba showed a 18-minute solo performance on the main floor of the amphitheater Theâtre-Source by Philippe Aguirre during its inauguration within SUD2013. The costume of the artist was a plastic bag. Plastic was used as a metaphor for detachment, dislocation and a lack of intimacy. The intention of the artist was to critically question and to provocatively show the materialistic turn of the world we live in.
The work Plasticization is part of Across the Board, a two-year Tate Modern project, focused on recent and experimental art practices of Africa and of the African Diaspora.
