Floating Quay est une oeuvre de l’artiste colombien Juan Fernando Herran. Sa construction a commencé pour le SUD2013, et a continué en janvier 2014 avec le soutien de l’architecte Mauro Lugaresi. L’oeuvre n’ayant jamais été finie, le début de sa construction sert de témoin du projet initial. C’est une construction en bois sur la rive du fleuve Wouri composée de plusieurs pontons rappelant la forme des pirogues traditionnelles. Avec ce travail, l’artiste a voulu rendre hommage à la culture de tradition fluviale des habitants de Bonamouti, une population de pêcheurs qui encore aujourd’hui fait usage de pirogues (canots traditionnels taillés dans le bois) pour travailler. Le quai flottant offre un pied et un abri pour les canots, permettant aux pêcheurs de débarquer sur la rive quelle que soit la marée.

Floating Quay is an artwork by Colombian artist Juan Fernando Herran. Construction began for the SUD2013, and continued in January 2014 with the assistance of the architect Mauro Lugaresi. However, the work is still unfinished today. Only the initial construction phase can reflect the project’s original intentions.
It is a wooden scaffolding on the bank of the Wouri river made of several pontoons recalling the shape of traditional canoes. With this artwork, the artist wanted to pay tribute to the fluvial tradition of Bonamouti dwellers, a population of fishermen who make use of dugouts (traditional canoes carved into the wood) even today in order to run their business. The floating dock offers a foothold and a shelter for canoes, allowing fishermen to land on the shore regardless of the tide.
